Things.

Roeselare, Gallery Verne

A thing can be anything. But it is first and foremost just a thing. But when is a thing merely a thing? When is a thing empowered to express it’s primal essence as just being a thing and no more. A thing, not promoting any use; merely a thing, ready for you to give it any purpose.

Circumstance.

Tielt

Here are things enjoying an afternoon of absolute freedom. The freedom of not being the thing it was designed for. When the cat’s away, the mice will play. With definition gone, new possibilities arise.

Discourse.

collection Verhulst

Can an object dismiss itself from communicating?

Parlor.

Emelgem

Dolled up stuff hanging around.

Ship Ahoy!

Ship Ahoy!

Roeselare, Markelundklode_

Unlikely encounters.

An invitation to communicate from left to right bank. It’s only 60m apart but a far away place regardless.

Attempt.

Jan Colle Gallery, Ghent

A basketball court is unfolded and mapped upon the surfaces of the gallery in an attempt to create a space for unexpected play. Visitors to the show had to invent new strategies. And though a lot adapted their knowledge of basketball basics, a lot of extraordinary uses were invented too.

Adrift.

Ghent, Gallery Link

A former warehouse of upright pianos gives room to a day off for lighthearted boxes.

Liquidation.

Meulebeke, Gallery MC

End of show; an afternoon of total clearance. This is what’s left.

Proposition.

1999 Ghent, Port Actif

A proposition for an undefined space where accidents are opportunities for moving forward.

Things, things, things! We are surrounded by things. What are they here for, apart from the mandatory? What can they be in another logic. Beyond the realm of the known must be a field of opportunity. A dotted line attempts to create a space over there where the absurd is invited to common logic as a probability.
